Best online subscription tricks

Online music, TV and I dare say many other services can offer good value for subscribers however it’s possible to extract even greater value from some of these services in only a few extra clicks and with a few nifty tricks. The golden rule to remember is to keep an eye out and remember that most auto renew if you don’t cancel.

NOW TV

Subscribe to the Entertainment pack for £1 for your first month, then after a few days click ‘Cancel Pack’ in your account. Keep clicking to say you want to cancel. In an attempt to keep you subscribing NOW TV will offer you 4 months at half price (£3.49 instead of £6.99). In total you can get 5 months for less than £15 rather than nearly £35 at full price.

You can also follow the link above to get your first 3 months half price. I’m not sure if this affects the 4 months half price offer but is an easy way straight into making big savings.

Another way to make savings but requires a bit more work is to buy 3 or 5 month passes (sports and movies passes are also available) directly from the likes of GAME. Here, you pay for 3 or 5 months up front and are emailed a voucher code to use. This reduces the price down to an average of £5 per month for the entertainment pack and only £7.50 for the movies pack.

Deezer

After subscribing to Deezer on and off for coming on 2 years, I cancelled my subscription after getting annoyed with their latest iPhone app. Within hours of expiry of my subscription, Deezer emailed 21 times (yes 21! A technical error I’m sure) telling me that if I resubscribed to Premium+ I would pay £0.99 for 3 months instead of £9.99 per month. That’s a huge 96.7 per cent saving!
